IV sedation can work wonders for patients who have a fear of the dentist.

Its powerful, relaxing effects have helped so many of our patients access the treatment they need, removing anxiety and apprehension. Visiting the dental practice shouldn’t be a traumatic experience, and our caring dentists will help you build confidence and ease your nerves.
Great news for anxious and nervous patients
IV sedation has helped millions of people go ahead with dental check-ups and dental treatments, removing feelings of fear and anxiety. We see many patients who have sedation just once before they feel much more comfortable with seeing the dentist.
Whilst under sedation, you will be monitored by an experienced sedation dentist who will ensure you are responding well to the sedative at all times.
Experienced and compassionate dentists who care
We love the people-facing nature of dentistry. Our dentists will explore the origins of your dental anxiety and help reassure you every step of the way. In many cases, this can be enough to curb feelings of anxiety. But if you still find you could benefit from sedation, we can discuss the details of this with you.
Sedation can be used with any dental procedure, including dental check-ups and hygienist scale and polish appointments, implant surgery, root canal treatment, crowns and extractions.
From simple procedures to the very complex, sedation is compatible and can provide a helping hand with relaxation and alleviate nerves.
FAQs
What is IV sedation?
IV sedation (intravenous) is administered with a very fine needle on the back of the hand. IV sedation is made up of Midazolam, a short-acting sedative with muscle relaxant and amnesic properties. It stands out in the sedative family as a fast-acting drug with a short duration and produces very few after-effects.
Who can benefit from IV sedation?
We recommend IV sedation in the following scenarios:
- If you are undergoing a long or complex dental procedure.
- If you are extremely nervous about your procedure.
- If you have a sensitive gag reflex.
- If you have trouble sitting still/settling for long periods.
Which treatments can I have with IV sedation?
IV sedation can be used for virtually any dental procedure. It can also be offered for general check-ups and routine hygiene appointments, provided these are undertaken on a private basis.
How will I feel under sedation?
You will feel relaxed after just a few minutes after the sedative is administered. It is often described as a ‘happy drug’ for this reason. As the effects wear off, it’s normal to experience drowsiness. You may also remember very little of the procedure, as Midazolam is an amnesic drug.
