General dentistry focuses on looking after your dental wellbeing. With your oral health, prevention is always better than cure. Routine examinations and hygiene appointments are the foundation to your general dental care, keeping an eye on your teeth and gums. We want to see you regularly so we can keep a close eye on your oral health and spot any problems before they get worse.
Looking after your teeth
Your dentist is best placed to keep an eye out for any issues. During a dental examination, we can take x-rays to get the full picture of your oral health. Common problems such as dental decay can be detected before given a chance to progress and worsen. We’ll then arrange treatment to address the issue and get your teeth back to full functionality and appearance.
If we do detect any issues, these can be addressed with our range of treatments to repair and restore teeth including:
- Fillings – we can repair a damaged tooth with traditional amalgam fillings or composite fillings for a more natural looking result.
- Root canal therapy – this involves the removal of infected pulp to save a tooth that may otherwise have to be extracted.
- Crowns – we can restore the strength, shape and look of an unsightly tooth with these permanent cover ups.
- Bridges – these can fill the gaps left by missing teeth. They consist of a false tooth positioned between two crowns that slot over the teeth either side of a gap.
- Dentures – our modern dentures restore your smile and make smiling, speaking and eating so much easier.
Looking after your gums
Visits to the hygienist will keep gum disease at bay. Hygiene appointments involve a thorough clean, removing deposits of plaque from your teeth – including hard-to-reach areas that you can’t reach with conventional cleaning at home. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the UK, so hygiene appointments are incredibly essential to your preventative care.
We also offer a more thorough cleaning method, Airflow, which removes plaque and tartar as well as lifts off surface stains from the enamel.
Protecting your smile
In addition to your routine dental care, we also offer more extensive treatment to deal with issues affecting your oral health. We can carry out root canal treatments at our practice, saving teeth from needing to be extracted. We’re fully equipped to perform oral surgery, keeping your mouth pain-free and problem-free. We can also provide sports mouthguards to defend against any accidents and injuries.
